Week Two
Week Two
I have been practicing French slowly. It requires more time than
I thought to go back and learn a language you have some history with. Having
said that, there are some really fun songs to learn the French alphabet that I
would definitely look into using when it comes to teaching this in the
classroom.
The obstacles I encountered are that it’s going to take much
more time than I anticipated to learn this language at a teachable level. The
goals I have for each week in my proposal are a little far-stretched but I will
still try my best to follow along!
Something helpful is that in my placement, the students are
in Grade 6 and are learning French as well! I actually sat through the whole
French class and made so many observations, following along very carefully. The
teacher used such creative approaches to be familiarizing the kids with
different vocabulary. They listened to many songs and played some games in
order to recognize the words and practice vocalizing the phrases they need to
know for the Grade 6 French Curriculum.
For next week, I want to be more active in trying to teach
myself French. I feel like I can watch videos and try more fun ways to learn it
and that way I will be more interested. One way I will be doing this is by using
thefrenchexperiment.com. It’s an application I found called where you can find
many bedtime stories in French writing. There are colourful pictures and you
can also listen to the stories in French. You can listen and follow along to
the narrator or you can repeat after the narrator and practice your words. This
enables a person to recognize new words because they hear, and it can see the
translation if they click on it. This website is perfect for new French
speakers! I want to be able to read these stories with my husband and practice
them. I know when you try to teach something to someone else, you learn It
better yourself. Let’s see how this goes! I will try to finish the Three Little Pigs/Trois Petit Couchon by
next week!
